Hey legend, it's Josh here and in this blog post, I want to tell you why you don't need a "vagus nerve reset".Recently I've noticed this wave of people struggling with anxiety, overthinking and the feeling of being in a heightened state saying things like "I've done some research and I think I need a vagus nerve reset".Let me tell you why everything that you've been told about the vagus nerve reset is bullshit...<figure id="figure-n5ugd4brxvmkvy8sks" class=""><iframe id="n5ugd4brxvmkvy8sks" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/AUbHKfqoDzk" class="w-full bg-gray-100 rounded-sm md:rounded-md lg:rounded-lg" style="aspect-ratio: 16/9;" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen="" data-url="https://youtu.be/AUbHKfqoDzk" data-corners="default" data-fullwidth="false" data-mce-src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/AUbHKfqoDzk" data-mce-style="aspect-ratio: 16/9;"></iframe></figure><h2>Vagus Nerve Bullshit</h2>Firstly, you don't just get to have a quick "reset" of your nervous system, that's not how it works.For most of you struggling with anxiety and heightened states of panic or emotional distress, you've worked yourself up to this point from years of unmanaged stress and emotional pressure.You don't fix that by dunking your head into a bowl of iced water or using some wearable technology.Those things might provide you temporary relief so you "feel good" but they won't actually help you find sustainable balance in your system.You might as well be taking medication, drinking alchohol or getting stoned.&nbsp;You see the problem with this approach is not the activity itself.The problem is the ATTITUDE you bring to the activity.<h2>Change Your Attitude</h2>When you are trying to use quick fixes and shortcuts, you're really signalling to your nervous system "I need to escape this experience I'm having".Read that sentence again and you'll see why you're stuck in the fight or flight mode.When you're constantly trying to "escape" or "avoid", you're literally telling your nervous system, "I'm not safe".It's no wonder you stay in this constantly heightened state, month after month, year after year.You're trying to run away from your problems instead of doing the work necessary to create lasting transformation.So if this message is speaking to you, here's what to do instead...You have to understand the reason you're constantly feeling emotionally triggered is because you have a little part of your brain called the "Amygdala".<h2>The Amygdala Hijack</h2>The Amygdala is your threat detection centre.It lives in the limbic brain (the lower part of your brain).It plays a big part in your survival as a human but the problem is, for most of you, there's no real danger and it's all just made up stories in your head.If you're constantly overthinking, feeling emotionally reactive, frustrated, angry, anxious... it's because your amygdala is hijacking your brain.<ul><li>You lose your ability to think clearly.</li><li>You lose your ability to be rational.</li><li>You lose your mind.</li></ul>If you want to *actually* regulate your nervous system, you need to get back in control of your mind, your emotions and your thoughts.<h2>Transforming Your Life</h2>Once you know how to manage your thoughts and emotions by being present, grounded and centred, you'll be on the real path to transforming the health of your nervous system (and brain).<ul><li>You'll start to feel safe.</li><li>You'll start to be calm.</li><li>You'll start to develop real self confidence.</li></ul>You're logical thinking will become stronger than ever, you'll become more focussed and you'll become truly unshakeable.Not only that, when you train your ability to be present, scientific studies have shown you change the activity in your brain. A state of neutrality where one accepts "what is" without judgment. No curiosity. No responsibility.&nbsp;🟡 Low-Quality Questions These sound reflective but keep you stuck.<ul><li>“Why is this happening to me?”</li><li>“Whose fault is this?”</li><li>“Why doesn’t anything ever work out?”</li></ul>There’s a question mark... but you’re still in victim mode.&nbsp;🟢 High-Quality Questions These are the questions that actually create change.<ul><li>“What is this trying to teach me?”</li><li>“How can I be better here?”</li><li>“What would this look like if I took full responsibility?”</li></ul>If you want clarity this year, this is where you start.<h3>Step 1: Get Honest About What’s Not Working</h3>You can’t create meaningful goals without first getting honest.Ask yourself:<ul><li>What challenges keep showing up in my life?</li><li>What feels misaligned or unfinished?</li><li>Where am I avoiding responsibility or truth?</li></ul>This isn’t about self-criticism. Weed. Dopamine. Busyness. “Staying productive”.All ways to avoid sitting with yourself.And honestly, I’m not judging you...I did a bit of that myself. Most of us are doing the best we can with the tools we're given but avoidance doesn’t eliminate problems... It stores them in your nervous system.<h2>Why Quick Fixes Always Fail Long Term</h2>Most mainstream solutions are designed to manage symptoms, not upgrade the operating system at the source.They help you cope with anxiety, function in a society where high stress is "normal" and live alongside emotional chaos.That might keep you surviving, but it will never give you real inner peace.Because even though everyone wants to escape the symptoms of anxiety, the symptoms of anxiety are not the problem...Anxiety is just feedback.It’s your system telling you that:<ul><li>You don’t feel safe internally</li><li>Your mind is running outdated software</li><li>Your nervous system is stuck in fight/flight mode</li><li>Your awareness is hijacked by thought and emotion </li></ul>You already know this.That’s why part of you resists the idea that someone else can “fix” you.Deep down you know it's an inside job.And I encourage you to trust that inner voice.<h2>Why This Isn’t About Blame</h2>Let me be clear about something important.This isn’t about shaming yourself for not doing enough.It’s about taking responsibility for what happens next.You don't know what you didn’t know.You were told:<ul><li>“Talk it out”</li><li>“Take the edge off”</li><li>“Manage your stress”</li><li>“Just be more disciplined” </li></ul>But nobody showed you how to:<ul><li>Regulate your nervous system</li><li>Detach from overthinking</li><li>Build emotional capacity</li><li>Operate from presence instead of panic</li></ul>So you keep pushing forward with the same internal setup... hoping the external world eventually feels better.But it never does.Because it can’t.Nothing will change until you change.<h2>The Truth Most People Avoid</h2>Here’s the uncomfortable truth:If nothing changes internally, 2026 will feel exactly like 2025 (maybe worse).<ul><li>More reactivity.</li><li>More pressure.</li><li>More expectations.</li><li>Less energy.</li><li>Less presence.</li></ul>The 4am spirals won’t magically stop.The emotional reactivity won’t dissolve on its own.The background tension won’t just fade away.You might get temporary relief with the weekend beers or the quartlery holiday but tip-toeing around your inner world won’t get you where you want to go long term.At some point, you either commit… or you keep coping.Now here's what makes my work different from what you've tried before.<h2>I’m Not Your Daddy.
